Can an Existing Flat Entrance Fire Door Be Repaired?
Frequently, yes. A door that records defects is not automatically beyond use. Whether it can be repaired or upgraded depends on what is known about its construction, any certification or supporting evidence that exists, the extent and location of the damage, the condition of the frame and whether compatible replacement components can be fitted.
Where those conditions are met, remedial work is often the proportionate answer. Where they are not — for example where the construction cannot be established or the damage is beyond what the door can tolerate — we say so plainly and recommend a replacement doorset instead of carrying out work that cannot restore the required performance.

Gaps and alignment, worn or missing seals, hinge and closer faults, latching problems, ironmongery changes and localised surface or lipping damage can normally be corrected on a door of known construction and sound frame.

A complete doorset is usually the better route where the construction cannot be established, the leaf or frame is severely damaged, alterations have compromised the assembly, the glazing arrangement is unsuitable, or the cost of remedial work approaches that of replacement.
